  The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the US has released alleged conversations between Nigeria’s Deputy Commissioner of Police,  Abba Kyari  and serial internet fraudster, Hushpuppi. The FBI in an affidavit issued before the United States District Court by a Special Agent with the FBI, Andrew John Innocenti, disclosed how it identified and nailed Nigeria’s Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, as one of the co-conspirators of Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi. The FBI said that Kyari abandoned his duties in Nigeria sometime in 2019 and flew to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, to “enjoy a good time” with Hushpuppi, who lived at Palazzo Versace in the Emirati commercial capital. It further alleged that Huspuppi appeared to have first interacted with Mr Kyari during the police officer’s trip to Dubai in September 2019. The woman said her husband, who is a lawyer, beats her consistently despite having produced three children in the marriage. A clip obtained by SaharaReporters showed the woman’s mouth filled with blood after allegedly receiving punches from her husband. In another clip, a conversation between their landlord and Columbus, the lawyer was heard complaining of the frustrations he had experienced at the hand of his wife. He said his wife pushed him into it, citing several ways she had allegedly not lived up to her responsibilities. He said: “If it is prison, I am ready, even if it is for 10 years, I’ll be happy, so she will feel the brunt of what I am feeling, the school fees, the feeding, the nonsensical thing she is doing in my house. She has pushed me into this. Why will somebody with children be sleeping around 8:30 am?

  The Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Tuesday urged Nigerians to stop offering their officers a bribe. They also urged the public to report any officer who demands a bribe. The two agencies were among participants at a one-day virtual stakeholder dialogue on “effective and sustainable strategies for curbing retail corruption” organised by the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption (PACAC). PACAC Executive Secretary, Prof Sadiq Radda, said citizens have a critical role to play in ending petty (retail) corruption, most of which occur in form of bribery. He believes retail corruption can be reduced when citizens are law-abiding and comply with the rules, and when institutions play their roles effectively.
